A raw Canis Major diet is good for dogs who wish to live a longer life, have a silky coat with little to no shedding, promote bone health and so much more. We even have products which will aid in dog digestion and help with weight control.
In addition to meals, Canis Major also offers a full line of treats and bones.
New from Canis Major is Newfoundland Dog Treats. This product line consists of 100% all natural dried and dehydrated beef products. These products make great snacks, training treats, or can supplement a dog’s diet.
Why Feed Canis Major?
- Our products are 100% natural and do not include any fillers which are contained in many other pet foods. Many dogs are allergic to these fillers.
- Our raw diet is full of protein. This helps dogs to manage their weight while giving them energy.
- Our raw diet helps with many skin conditions, shedding, digestive problems, itching, and joint health.
- Dogs who are fed raw have less plaque and tartar build-up on their teeth and generally have fresher breath. Raw bones do an especially great job at cleaning teeth.
- Dogs who are fed our diet have less waste. This makes for an easier garden clean up.
- Canis Major is a local company which only uses the best local quality cattle to manufacture its products. We believe in 100% utilization, this means that the high quality cuts such as t-bones and tenderloin are used to make our patties and other products.
- The 80/10/10 ratio which we use in our beef patties, dog meatballs, pet bars, and beef cakes consists of 80% beef meat, 10% beef organ, and 10% ground beef bone. This mixture makes sure that your dog is getting enough protein, vitamins, and minerals.
How do I feed Canis Major?
- Feeding raw can be as simple or complex as you make it.
- The 8oz patty is the basis of our raw diet.
- Many dog owners serve one patty in the morning and one in the evening (depending on the dogs size, age, and activity level).
- Optional: A couple times a week, Tripe (either Tripe Bites or a Tripe Patty) can be added to the meal. Tripe helps your dog's digestive system.
- Optional: For added variety you can occasionally add frozen vegetables, a raw egg, or a different raw protein (ie rabbit or moose).
- Raw bones should be used to help clean your dogs teeth, provide recreation, and added minerals. Remember to choose the correct strength and size of bone for your dog and to always supervise chewing.
- Don't forget to keep all the products frozen. Some dogs prefer to eat the products frozen while others prefer them thawed.
- Don't forget to clean up. The products are all raw beef and as such please follow the same cleaning procedures that you would after handling raw meat in your home kitchen.
How much should I feed my Dog?
The Canis Major Feeding Guideline can be used as a guide to dog owners who are beginning to switch their dog to Canis Major food. Please adjust the amount of food provided to your dog based on the dog’s level of activity and his appetite. These guidelines are based on the 8oz patty. If serving 4 oz patties, please adjust the feedings accordingly.
